Tuesday night's Red Sky Tour featuring Hunter Hayes was an unforgettable experience at the historic Vic Theater in Chicago. The concert started off with Abbey Anderson, an up-and-coming artist who proved to be a perfect fit to warm up the crowd. Anderson showcased her impressive vocals and charm as she belted out fan favorites like Make Him Wait and We Go Together Like. The crowd was immediately drawn to her magnetic presence and were already on their feet and ready for more.
Hunter Hayes appeared on stage and launched straight into High Tide, a track off his new album Red Sky. The audience was electrified as he belted out each verse while strumming his guitar. From the get-go, it was clear that Hayes is an extraordinary performer. Not only is he a skilled musician but also a dynamic and captivating performer. His ability to effortlessly switch from playing the guitar to the piano was remarkable and showcased his skills as a multi-talented musician. As soon as he walked out on stage, the crowd erupted in excitement.

Over the next two hours, Hunter took us on an unforgettable journey through 24 songs. The show was peppered with hits from throughout his career, as well as some new tracks. Hunter’s infectious energy and the heartfelt delivery of every note made the concert feel like a musical adventure. From upbeat tracks like Somebody’s Heartbreak and Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me to heartfelt songs like Invisible and Friend, every song had a story that connected with the crowd. The highlight of the set was undoubtedly the song Dear God, which resonated with the crowd and had them singing along at the top of their lungs.

The night ended with the iconic hit, I Want Crazy, and the crowd was singing along with every word. Hayes commanded the stage with his extraordinary vocals and magnetism, and his chemistry with his band was infectious. The crowd didn’t want it to end. After the band had left the stage, Hunter returned for a heartfelt encore of his signature hit, Wanted, leaving the crowd mesmerized. To end the song, Hayes stood in the center of the stage, without his mic belting out the chorus for the audience to sing along. It was an incredible moment of unity between the performer and his fans, the perfect way to end an unforgettable night.

Hunter's latest album Red Sky was released in April of 2023, and it's evident that it has been a labor of love for the talented musician. It's an independent album that lets Hunter create his music on his terms, and this is apparent in the authenticity and passion that comes through in every song. The concert was a nostalgic experience for some, including myself, who first saw Hunter perform at Joe's Bar in 2010 when he was only 18 years old. It's been incredible to see how much he has grown and developed as an artist in the last decade.

The Vic Theater proved to be the perfect venue, with its historic charm and intimate setting.
