Jake Owen takes ATL Down to the Honkytonk
Jake Owen has a way of turning any concert into a party and last Friday night in Atlanta was no different. Performing at the historic Tabernacle music venue in downtown Atlanta, Owen and his opener Ben Burgess took the audience Down to the Honkytonk. The two played for a packed house of country music lovers that danced and sang at the top of their lungs to every song.
The 2,500 occupancy venue was originally a Baptist church built 112 years ago in 1911. It was turned into a House of Blues in 1996 for the Olympics but was quickly dropped by the company a year later and sold to a local concert promoter/venue owner who again sold it shortly after to what’s now known as Live Nation. The Tabernacle still welcomes barstool saints with a traditional church feel, from gorgeous multi-story stained glass windows and chandeliers to painted ceiling textiles which makes the whole concert experience that much more special.
Full of energy from the very first note, Jake and his band hyped up the audience with some of his greatest hits from now all the way back to the beginning. Southerners from all over the region attended with beers raised high, shouting Yee Haw as the classic from 2006 pumped through the speakers. Another fan favorite that came in hot was Days of Gold, which I personally thought was one of the best songs of the night. Having been to countless country concerts over the years, I can honestly say that Jake Owen has some of the best stage presence of any artist I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. Not only does he simply have a blast with his band members, but he also engages the audience throughout the entire show by throwing full tall boys of Coors, guitar picks, and drumsticks out to fans along with getting audience participation for a large number of “sing-along” songs that have been on our playlists since their release.
Jake and his guys hit the road again beginning May 27th at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina and will be on tour through the middle of August all over the US and Canada. You can find upcoming shows near you on the official Jake Owen website.
