Sara Evans Steals The Show!
The McHenry Country Fair didn’t know what to expect when Sara Evans took the stage on Saturday night for her set. She delivered a flawless performance. To the point, Sara had the crowd on their feet wanting more.
The night kicked off with her 2005 classic “A Real Fine Place To Start” belting out the lyrics to a crowd already singing along. Her co-written 2003 song from the Restless album “Perfect” fit right in next as she worked the stage for the fair faithful. Her duet with Gavin DeGraw's “Not Over you” followed with her backing vocalists picking up on Gavin’s parts perfectly. A Hillary Lindsay cut “Backseat Of A Greyhound Bus” found its way into the set & captivated the McHenry audience. The lyrics mixed with Sara’s vocals made this song a highlight of the night.
Any artist that gets the chance to have a greatest hits album is a career accomplishment on its own, & Sara is one of those lucky few. The next song “As If” made that greatest hits album, Co-written with Sara Evans & Hillary Lindsay, this song has become a staple for Sara. In 2020, Sara released an all-cover album called “Copy That” we were lucky to get a small taste from that album with cover songs of “If I Can’t Have You” by the Bee Gee’s & “It’s Too Late” by Carole King.
In 2021, Sara Evans's daughter Olivia Evans released her first EP “Level”, which went over as a huge pop success. The crowd was lucky to have Olivia on backing vocals tonight. Just like any mom, it was Sara to put her daughter front and center to sing her rendition of a Dean Dillion penned song “Tennessee Whiskey” made famous by Chris Stapleton. With a stunning performance, many of the fair goers were on their feet in applaud at the conclusion of Olivia being front and center. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of Olivia Evans soon.
Unfortunately, Sara Evans was billed as the opening act to Big & Rich, so her set was cut just a little short at only 12 songs, but the last 4 cemented the flawless performance of her hits. Kicking off with “I Keep Looking” from the 2000 album “Born To Fly”. Her powerhouse song “A Little Bit Stronger” followed, Sara talked about the importance of this song, but this is a song that can have many meanings. Sometimes even in our weakest moments, we get a little stronger. The song, which was co-written by Luke Laird, Hillary Lindsay, & Hillary Scott has become one of Sara Evans's biggest songs to date.

Jumping back to the “Born To Fly” album was the title cut “Born To Fly” which got the thousands of fair fans on their feet and dancing to a classic co-written by Sara & Marcus Hummon. After a short encore, Sara made her way to the stage for her final song & which could be the biggest hit of her career “Suds In The Bucket” with over 61+ Million streams on Spotify if was the perfect closing song. This song had folks of all ages up and out of the grandstand moving with the beats of the song, and smiles on many faces. Sara Evans proved she is a force in Country Music and with her currently writing a new album could mean dangerous things for other female country artists. Sara Evans is one of the best voices in all of Country Music.
