The High School Reunion Tour W/ Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa & Others Bring The Hits To Chicago
As I walked into the Credit Union 1 Amphitheater, I was transported back to my high school days. The nostalgic spirit of the concert was in full swing as I took in the sight of thousands of people dancing and singing along to some of the greatest hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. The High School Reunion Tour featuring Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Too $hort, Warren G, & Berner was definitely living up to the hype.
Berner's energetic performance was one of the highlights of the night. As the crowd cheered and danced to his songs, I could tell that Berner was really connecting with his audience. He brought a level of energy to the stage that was truly contagious. With hits like "20 Joints" and "Pass Me The Green," he definitely showed why he deserved to be on the tour with such iconic names in the rap industry. Berner is the Co-Founder and CEO of Cookies, the most globally recognized cannabis brand in the world.
The crowd really went wild when Warren G took to the stage. The classic hits like "Regulate" and "This DJ" had everyone singing along and swaying to the rhythm. The way Warren G commanded the stage was impressive, as he reminded everyone of his legacy in the rap game. It was truly a nostalgic moment as the crowd came together to relive the magic of his music.
Next up was Too $hort, a rap legend known for his influential role in the industry. As he performed "The Ghetto," it was clear that his presence on stage was one that commanded attention. The way he moved around and controlled the audience showed just how much influence he had on the rap genre. The energy was palpable as he took everyone on a journey through some of his most classic hits that started way back in the early 80s. Too $hort was actually one of the first artists I ever downloaded on Napster in ’99.
As the night wore on, it was time for Wiz Khalifa to take the stage. His high-energy set had the crowd passing joints and blow-up joints back and forth. The hits just kept coming as he performed "Black & Yellow" and "23," which were clear Chicago crowd-pleasers. His charisma and energy on stage kept the crowd hyped up and engaged throughout his entire performance.
Last but certainly not least, Snoop Dogg made a grand entrance in a lowrider as he took the stage. Snoop, dressed in his signature tracksuit, was in top form as he played hits from his 25-year career. The crowd went wild as he performed “Gin and Juice”, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”, and “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” He paid tribute to hip-hop legends like Dr. Dre and Tupac, leaving the audience touched by the nostalgia of his music. As he performed many collaborations with Wiz Khalifa, it was clear that their chemistry on stage was undeniable. As evening settled in, a heartfelt montage graced the monitors, paying homage to the hip-hop giants who've left us too soon, such as Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller, and Takeoff. It was an impactful reminder of the remarkable accomplishments and legacies these fantastic musicians have left behind. The soundtrack to this emotional sequence was Wiz's renowned tune "See You Again". Snoop Dogg definitely stole the show, as he proved that his legacy in the rap game was just as strong as it had ever been.
The High School Reunion Tour was a night to remember, full of nostalgic hip-hop performances from some of the biggest names in the game. From Berner's dynamic set to Warren G's journey down memory lane, every performer brought their own unique flavor to the stage. The crowd was electrified by Too $hort's throwback hits and Wiz Khalifa's high-energy performance, while Snoop Dogg's laid-back presence belied his incredible talent and effortless ability to keep the audience engaged. With touching tributes to legends like Notorious B.I.G and Tupac, and a slideshow honoring fallen hip-hop icons, the night was truly full of nostalgia, reminding us of the incredible impact these artists have had on the industry. It was a night of pure hip-hop magic, showcasing the timeless power and influence of the genre.
