Kacey Musgraves Has Returned!
Kacey has “found a deeper well”, and it appears that she has found an album in there too. We are finally getting our first look into the next age of Kacey Musgraves. Introducing, “Deeper Well”; the title track off of Musgraves’ next album to be released on March 15th. And may I just say, LOVE.
The delivery of this song is undoubtedly matching the ethereal Golden Hour vibes. Her Grammy awarded 2018 release came at a time of discovering new love, becoming a fiancé, and truly living and loving life. Unfortunately, the story does not end there, thus following with the 2021 album star-crossed. When I listen to star-crossed, I hear her pain, that she’s hurt and rightfully raging. But once I plugged in to this new single, I took a deep breath because, by the sounds of it, she has reclaimed her peace once again. Musgraves tends to reference her age in her music often, repeating the habit in this single, which shows her transformation as she’s growing up and providing us a timeline of her phases of life.
I also draw comparisons between this single and the overall essence of Deeper Well to snippets of her career so far. I for one am thankful to hear Kacey in an acoustic style again. Same Trailer Different Park is country Kacey at its finest. I feel like she is revisiting and leaning into her Texas, songwriter roots again, showing off an old acoustic guitar in promo photos for the release. She has also recently collaborated with Noah Kahan and won a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Zach Bryan. Another recent release revisits an old favorite from her early shows, finally giving us a fully recorded version of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” ahead of the new biopic movie of the musician. All this to say, I think these collaborations were Easter eggs in providing us a glimpse of the musical space she resides in at this phase of her life.
