49 Winchester Debuts In Chicago to a Sold-Out Crowd

Chicago’s local dive bar Carol’s Pub was the home for the night. The show started out with an acoustic set by Singer/Songwriter Mike Koziol. Matt’s set consisted of songs from his latest album “Wildhorse” which was released earlier this year. His lyrics connected with the ever-growing Chicago crowd. One thing that caught my eye was the headliners 49 Winchester was also in attendance for Matt’s set as they watched Matt’s flawless set from the crowd.

The time came for 49 Winchester to take the stage, by this time the show was officially sold out, and the band was ready to give the crowd everything they had. The show started off with the song “Chemistry” & that’s what the band brought with them, wasting no time to have the Chicago crowd crowding the front of the stage intrigued by 49’s sound. “Fortune Favors The Bold” the title track from the band’s 2022 album followed and you can tell 49 Winchester already had the crowd in the palm of their hands. The band played a good mix of songs from their 2022 album as well as the 2020 album “III”. “Hays, Kansas” was the song that showed this Chicago crowd that 49 was not messing around they were here to give us a show!

At one point of the show Lead Singer & Songwriter Isaac Gibson got introduced to the Chicago handshake as he downed a shot of the famous Chi-Town bitter-tasting Malort and rinsed it down with a swig of Old Style. The look on his face after that was probably the reason one fan said Malort tasted like “It's as if shame and regret were left to ferment before being distilled through an old, sweaty shoe”.

During the 17-song setlist, 49 Winchester showed Chicago why they had a sold-out debut. Just days after their Opry debut you could tell 49 was still riding the high from that night and the year is not slowing down for them anytime soon. I highly suggest seeing a show soon, before they are playing bigger and bigger venues because it will happen for this band from Virginia with more heart than I have seen in a long time.
