Alexandra Kay Wraps Up Headline Tour
Hitting headlines as an independent artist once again, Alexandra Kay recently wrapped up her first headlining tour, Backroad Therapy, with special guest Julia Cole. The dynamic duo is a powerhouse of femininity on stage, singing about life experiences from one-upping your girlfriends with how bad an ex was to playing dive bars where only 7 people were in attendance. Back in March, the two released their first single together Best Worst Ex, which was just announced as the winner of Best Breakup Song at the fan-voted Country Now Awards and has over 8 million streams on Spotify. Now, after a month on the road, Alexandra and Julia are saddened that it’s coming to an end, but could not be more thankful for the opportunity and support fans across the country have given them.
When asked about their experience touring together, Alexandra stated, “It’s been amazing. It’s the first headlining tour that I’ve ever done like this. I did a joint headlining tour with Cooper Alan and Thomas Mac all of last year and by the end of it, we were filling 800 caps rooms. I never imagined we’d be able to put 400 people in a room by ourselves! Julia has been killing it and the crowd goes absolutely insane every single night. There’s no one else I could imagine opening up these shows. And to see her fans in these rooms go crazy and to be able to play for her fans, I’ve loved the opportunity I’ve had to play for them as well!”
Julia Cole had a lot to say about being on the road with Alexandra as well, “I’ve experienced something I’ve never experienced before. I’ve never opened for someone where I’ve seen the excitement and craziness from the fans the way I have on this tour. It’s been an organic true fandom where these people are just so excited through and through to listen to every single song AK has to sing. She could sing the phonebook and they wouldn’t care! They just want to see her on the stage. It’s been so refreshing to see that happen, not only for someone who’s such a good person and so talented but for a female country singer who is doing this by herself and building this grassroots. Piece by piece she is tearing things up and it’s because she’s Alexandra Kay. There’s no equation to it. She’s just connecting and interacting with people and they love it. I’ve opened up for a lot of people over the years, but not many people have fans like her.”
For those who know the historic listening room in Atlanta, Eddie’s Attic, you know that it sits on top of a Waffle House, has a lot of stairs, and only sits approximately 100 people. Having been used to full-production shows on previous tour dates, Alexandra said she loved how intimate the venue was. “It was really fun being able to play in a listening room during the tour. It was amazing getting to see every person's face in the crowd while we played and being able to interact from the stage on a personal level with them.”
