Breaking News: Today We Lost A Legend
The Coal Miners’ Daughter & Country Superstar Loretta Lynn passed away peacefully in her sleep this morning Tuesday, October 4th, 2022 at her home in Hurricane Mills, TN.
She was 90.
She got her start singing honest songs about her upbringing in Appalachia. She was a courageous songwriter who wrote songs about cheating husbands, sex, birth control, and divorce. Some of those biggest hits were "Coal Miners Daughter", "Don't Come Home Drinkin (With Lovin' on Your Mind)", and "The Pill", just to name a few of her hit songs. She joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1962 and won four GRAMMY awards, seven American Music Awards, and eight Country Music Association awards. She was the first woman to win the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards for Entertainer of the Year in 1972. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008, and was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. She sold over 45 million albums worldwide.
She later formed one of the greatest country duos with Conway Twitty. They had a very huge hit in 1973 with "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man".
"The story of Loretta Lynn's life is unlike any other, yet she drew from that story a body of work that resonates with people who might never fully understand her bleak and remote childhood, her hardscrabble early days, or her adventures as a famous and beloved celebrity. In a music business that is often concerned with aspiration and fantasy, Loretta insisted on sharing her own brash and brave truth."
- Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Her vision came to life in 1990 when she built a replica of her childhood home in Hurricane Mills, TN. Still to this day her ranch there is a huge tourist site. In August 2021 a flood hit Humphreys County and she had a very close friend Wayne Spears pass away in the flood. She had a benefit event at the Grand Ole Opry on September 13, 2021. It was called " Loretta Lynns Friends Hometown Rising". I was fortunate enough to go and experience all the love from the country music community. I was able to meet her granddaughter Tayla Lynn. It was an awesome night of music and money-raising. She raised $1 million dollars for this town.
“Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills.”
