Charles Kelly of Lady A Says Goodbye…

Charles Kelley from the trio Lady A recently posted a clip of an unreleased demo to his Instagram, the title of the demo is “As Far As You Could” & it serves as his goodbye letter to alcohol.

The song was written with fellow bandmate Dave Haywood & the talented producer Jimmy Robbins, the work tape was shared in full to his Instagram page with the true-hearted lyrics attached to the video. Charles wrote in the caption

“This song was very therapeutic to write, and I hope it can meet someone where they are.”

Earlier in the year, Lady A canceled their headlining Request Line Tour In Order to support Kelley while finding his sobriety and himself. The tour will start back up in March of 2023,  The band’s statement for the canceled shows was a heartfelt one.

“Being on the road with our fans is our greatest joy, so it was a hard but important decision to make. We are a band, but more importantly, we’re family. We’re proud to say that Charles has embarked on a journey to sobriety. So, right now in order to be the healthiest, strongest, and most creative band we can be, Lady A will take the time with the support of our families and team of professionals to walk through this together. It’s early on this road, but we are determined to do what will best set us up for many more years together. We’re grateful for your patience.”

“As Far As You Could” has haunting lyrics for anyone who has traveled down the road of alcohol and had to fight with it. Kelley put’s his heart on his sleeve with these lyrics and shows his vulnerable side.

This song hit close to home for me, on December 11th, 2022, I will be 3 years without alcohol, and sometimes I need songs like this to help get me through some tough times. In the lyrics, Charles touches on a subject that was the reason I stopped drinking.  Charles's addiction had an impact on his marriage, and he sings the lyrics

“Well, you gave me the courage the night I met my wife / you help me make her laugh ‘til you helped me make her cry”

This is the lyric that got me and made this one of my personal favorite songs. My wife got to the point where she refused to be around me and alcohol at the same time. That’s when I knew it was time, but I never thought I could do it. I didn’t like who I became when I drank, but it took her tears to change that for me.

“For me, the biggest word I’ve been holding on to is gratitude, not pride. I’m grateful. I finally see the light and am connecting with what life is all about. Some days are hard, but the good so outweighs those bad moments. There’s some beauty in all this and I’ve had time to reflect, time to get healthy, time to write. I’ve probably written 50 songs this fall, and I feel like all of it was leading to this one song.”

This is a powerful song and I encourage everyone to head over to Charles Kelley’s Instagram page and give it a listen.
