Megan Moroney Gets Lucky with a Sold-Out Show in Chicago

The weatherman said there was a 100% chance I was going to see Megan Moroney on her Lucky tour. This show sold out within days of going on sale and the venue was jam-packed. Logan Crosby opened for Megan. If you’re a game and reality tv show junkie like myself, you might know Logan as Jason Aldean’s nephew and runner-up on season 1 of “Claim to Fame.” But nowadays he is trying to make some fame of his own as a country music singer/songwriter. Crosby did a 25-minute set of covers and songs off of his EP “23 Days in L.A.” He played his unreleased song “Land” which was my personal favorite of the night. He is a hilarious human and I wish he would work more of his humor into his shows to liven up his set which is mostly slow songs. With that being said, I would also like to inject his southern drawl into my veins.

Megan came out in a short, sparkly, green dress and white cowboy boots. Moroney opened with “Another on the Way” and played every song off her debut album. She strutted across the stage with sass accompanied by hair flips, eye rolls, and smirks throughout the night. She played “God Plays a Gibson” on her custom-made green Gibson guitar. She has a matching pink guitar and joked they are Cosmo and Wanda from “The Fairly Odd Parents.” In addition to playing her new album, she played “Hair Salon,” “Wonder,” and “Keep the Flowers” off her EP.

According to Megan’s Instagram, prior to the show one particular fan handed her a friendship bracelet with his number on it because “It worked for Travis Kelce.” Love the man for trying. The fact that she has long curly blonde hair, sings about her ex-boyfriends, and covered “We Are Never Getting Back Together” only adds to my theory that Megan is a reincarnation of country music Taylor Swift with added spice.

She performed “Nothin’ Crazy” which is one of three songs added to the deluxe album. She co-wrote and recorded the song with fellow artist Mackenzie Carpenter. For the song being barely a week old, the crowd knew every word. I have seen many shows at Joe’s and I have never heard a crowd sing every word to every song like they did at this one. The closest comparison I have to a crowd like that is a sold-out stadium for Morgan Wallen on the “One Night at a Time” tour. Her fans are the real deal ride or die.

Megan has become every country music lover’s crush and her album has been one of my favorites of the year. She is on her way to being this generation’s Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert. The pace at which Megan is rising is astronomical and I would not be surprised if she is playing stadiums soon. I am looking forward to more emo cowgirl songs in the near future from this Georgia Peach.
