William Clark Green Gives Milwaukee Everything he Had.
The doors to Shank Hall were opened and the Milwaukee Red Dirt fans started to file into the classic venue. Shank Hall has been open since 1989 and has seen some of the biggest names in the Rock world come through its doors. Tonight, it was a band from Texas packing the room.
Ben Chapman opened the night with his bluesy hippie country music, which needs to be a genre just for him. Mainly, because no one is doing what he is in the music world. This young singer/songwriter is slowly developing his craft into being one of the most unique artists in the music scene today. Tearing through a 30-minute set he had the crowd out of his seat and moving along to his 30-minute acoustic set.
The stage was set for William Clark Green the night’s headliner. The Milwaukee crowd gathered around the stage included one couple from Texas who has seen over 100 William Clark Green shows, which shows dedication & just what kind of night it was going to be. The show kicked off with the intro to “She Likes The Beatles” before he went right into “Feel Alive” & his hit “Next Big Thing”. “Baker Hotel” was next up which also shares the same name as his 6th studio album, which was released earlier this year. He made sure to add in a few of that album with “Gun To Your Head” following.
He had the Milwaukee crowd singing along song after song giving them everything he had after 4 other shows this week. The biggest sing-along of the night came from his hit “Ringling Road”, which had the Shank Hall crowd to their feet as he threw in a medley of songs which song Ben Chapman returned to the stage for a special jam of “Heartache Tonight” which was made famous by the Eagles. William Clark Green gave his band a break for a part of the show that he leaves up to the crowd to call out, some he might not even remember. He did dig deep for the 2 that we were lucky to get in Milwaukee which were “Sweet Amy” from his 2010 album Misunderstood & “Goner” off the 2018 album Hebert Island.
The highlight of the night is when he sang a song, he co-wrote with Zane Williams & Max Stalling off his latest album Baker Hotel, the song called “Anymore” swept away the Milwaukee crowd, With his deep lyrics and soul behind this powerhouse of a song.
“You give it your best, Try not to regret the past, It's give and take, Some things you just can't take back I pulled you in, just to push you away, Searching for words that I know, I should say, But I wasn't expecting, the thought of you leaving today”
William Clark Green gave the crowd everything he had left in the tank and that left Shank Hall with another historic show under their belts. The band came out for a cover encore since WCG told the crowd after this strenuous week his voice was shot, but he had already put on one of the best shows I have seen to date.
